A practical workshop for the passionate writer Veteran Spring Festival director Stephen Heatley will lead a workshop for playwrights exploring the mechanics of “dramatic action." The workshop will investigate what makes words exciting on stage; the nuts and bolts of what drives a play toward a compelling conclusion. Using the participants’ own writings, as well as classic texts from the modern stage and scenes from Spring Festival’s plays, Stephen will explore the essence of what makes a great play work. This workshop is open to playwrights at all levels of development. Saturday, May 30th 10-6PM and Sunday, May 31st from 10AM -2PM. The workshop fee is $50. All participants will receive a complimentary SPC membership. Only 16 spots are available! To book a spot send a cheque to the SPC office. Flip Side Presents: SILENCE! A non-verbal show A part of the Live Five season, June 4-14, 2009 Performances at 8:15 Thursday - Saturday and at 2pm on Sunday Act One: bits and pieces by our collaborators Act Two: a 45-60minute, non verbal piece by Flip Side Bits and pieces: As a collaborator you would create a non verbal performance piece within the following framework: Length: 3 to 6 minutes Style: Any style; drama, comedy etc. Theme: Any Content: non verbal = no words in any known language, The piece may include gibberish, music, sound effects etc. Setting: Minimal, entire set & props must be able to be set up in 1 minute or less by two people And cleared in 1 minute or less by two people. Staging: The stage will be cluttered with assorted set pieces and furniture, giving the impression of a junk yard. This will include your set pieces etc. These pieces will be pulled out of the jumble and set in front of it for your piece. Location: This production will take place on Persephone's second stage (the Backstage stage).
