How to Submit to the SPC

Membership in the SPC gives playwrights access to script services provided by the SPC dramaturge and the dramaturgical committee.

This usually begins with a one on one consultation with the dramaturg.  For one on one consultations, the dramaturge reads and responds to the script (verbally and/or with written feedback). Playwrights then use this feedback to continue working on the play, resulting in a new draft and submit this draft for further discussion.

Members can also request, at any point in the development of the play, that their script be sent to the dramaturgical committee for their feedback.  This volunteer committee consists of three SPC members (two of which must be playwright members). The Committee’s response is relayed to the playwright through the dramaturge.

Members can also apply for workshops with professional actors.  These are subject to the availability of funds and approval by the dramaturgical committee.

The dramaturgical committee does NOT choose the scripts for Spring Festival or judge the 24 Hour competition.

The Committee does read and respond to scripts submitted for other competitions throughout the year.

The dramaturgical committee meets monthly September to April.  The deadline for submission to the committee is the 15th of each month.

The SPC accepts new script submissions and workshop requests from September 1 – April 30.

We do not accept submissions or requests for workshops between May and August.

Members are eligible to receive FOUR script services per year.  This can take many forms IE:

  • Submitting one play with two subsequent drafts for dramaturgical consultations and then applying for a workshop.
  • Two new plays with a subsequent draft of each.

Our current response time for One on One Dramaturgical Consultations is 6-8 weeks.

To apply for script services:

  • FORMAT YOUR SCRIPT: All plays must be submitted in a Standard Play Format.  Plays that are incorrectly formatted will be returned to the playwright for reformatting. We accept plays formatted in either of the following styles: SPC Play Format or Standard American Format.

  • This form must be filled in and attached to every submission.  If your submission doesn’t include this form it will be considered incomplete.
  • You are asked to let us know what service you want and how it will aid in the development of your script.  If you are unsure what your script needs, you can leave that to the discretion of the Dramaturge and/or the dramaturgical committee. This can be indicated on your SPC Submission Form.
  • The dramaturgical committee reads and responds to all submissions asking for a workshop or applying to competitions outside of Spring Festival and the 24 hour playwriting contest.  Members requesting a one-on-one dramaturgical consultation with the SPC dramaturge may also ask for feedback from the dramaturgical committee.

  • And, if this is the INITIAL SUBMISSION, you are submitting of this play mail a hard copy to:
